India is known as the country with the most diverse, beautiful cultures, but it is also known as the poorest and dirtiest in the world due to its quality of living and hygiene levels. One of the most prominent reason why India is left behind the competition is due to gender discrimination. Gender inequality has existed in India since the ancient times of kings and queens. It still occurs in various scenarios such as since birth women are not given opportunities to study and educate themselves, to learn useful skills that could prove beneficial to them in the future.
Our mission is to empower women in India to be financially independent by giving them an opportunity to increase their sense of self-worth, determine their own choices, and prove to the whole society by breaking the stigma that a woman can never become the breadwinner of their home.
The income they gain from this project can also be used towards their children's education and future.
The idea is to give the women below the poverty line the opportunity to be financially independent by creating a nonprofit project where they can learn profitable skills and use those skills to earn income for themselves and their families.

The skill in this project we decided to teach was sewing and stitching as they are relatively simple and easy to learn in less time.
We contacted a textile company and asked them if they would be able to help us by giving waste materials that we could use in this project.
Reasoning that there is an increase in demand for warm blankets in the winter season, we decided to produce high-quality blankets from the waste textile materials by stitching them together to form a unique design that was affordable and currently in fashion.
Our operating costs mainly consisted of labour, physical capital (the rent for the sewing machine), and the threads for sewing the raw material together. We didn't include the raw textile material into costs as we got it at no cost from the generous company. Therefore, we were able to keep the prices extremely low compared to our competition in the market due to our lower cost of production.
This advantage increased our profits, which further helped in the accomplishment of our mission as all the profits were going to the women who contributed to the cause.
After the blankets were produced they were made available for purchase on this website and a portion of them were donated to people who couldn't afford a blanket so that they can be warm during the winters as temperatures can reach 8 degrees celsius during the night.
Through this project, I was able to learn many new things, which wouldn't

Through this project, I was able to learn many new things, which wouldn't be possible otherwise, such as how an entrepreneur has to allocate resources in order to start production and create revenue, and how one has to sell the finished goods to potential customers.
My name is Avikam Kanodia, and I am currently studying at Pathways World School, Aravali, Gurgaon, India. I am an IB student as I am in DP1 (equivalent to Grade 11). I want to pursue a career in finance, hence I am opting for a major in economics in college and then further specialising in finance.
